Skills Training Programs Were Introduced for Indigenous Communities of B.C.

A government agency in British Columbia, the ITA or Industry Training Authority, will invest $7.5 million in order to help the 6 two-year training programs that are committed in providing employment to the indigenous communities.

The said programs will be addressing the chances of entering in construction and electrical workforce, with an estimate of 48 people receiving training that can lead to apprenticeships.

The CEO of ITA, Shelley Gray, said that the agency is committed to the cause through finding strong industry partners and training providers dedicated to the mission. According to her, the new programs will offer more assurance to individuals of having the necessary training, tools and opportunities in their paths to success.

According to Melanie Mark, the minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, the leaders of the indigenous group had been calling for years about having the opportunities near to their location in order to support their community. She added that the government have answer to the call with immediate action that can guarantee them plenty of employment opportunities throughout the decade.

In the 2018 Labour Market Outlook, nearly 71,000 trades job opportunities were projected to open in the province until 2028. ITA is coordinating with the funds from Canada-British Columbia Workforce Development Agreement, or WDA. The WDA, signed by the federal and provincial government in 2018, provides $685 million within 6 years and the abilities to be flexible and performing in fulfilling the cause for the British Columbians.
