7 / 10 workers Wish to Select Another Career

It is a fact that most of us will not get their dream jobs at all. There will always be a constant struggle to survive for a living, and that is why people tend to settle on jobs even though they don’t like them.

According to the survey of 1,350 professionals done by CERIC, an organization devoted to the advancement in career counseling and career development, 72 percent of Canadian workers who sought for career counseling wished that they had selected a different career and 67 percent wished they had not succumbed to the pressure of choosing an unwanted career.

61 percent wished they had taken more risks instead of letting fear ruled their decision-making while 59 percent wished they had widened their options more through exploration. The findings, as stated by the CERIC’s Chair of the Board, John Horn, expressed a need for better skills in career development for Canadians starting at youth and continued throughout.

He emphasized the longing for a work that motivates each one of us not just to feed our appetite and our dependents’ stomachs but also our soul. 85 percent of the Canadians had no idea that career guidance is already available after high school and 82 percent thought the careers are linear in which the belief is to proceed a chosen job after the post-secondary degree.

79 percent that the chosen career defines the path of life while 51 percent thought that the knowledge of one’s passion would definitely land them their dream jobs. 72 percent also wished they had a better personal understanding and chose a career aligned to their values.

49 percent are concerned about their capability to find work that pays decently while 45 percent are uncertain of their abilities and interests that hampers them in making the right choice. A report by the Business Development Bank of Canada stated that entrepreneurs of Canada are invested in hiring new talent and trained employees in 2020’s first quarter.
